Courtroom remands teenager for allegedly killing his 40-year-old father

A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Courtroom on Friday ordered that ThankGod Joseph, 18, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly killing his 40-year previous father.

NAN studies that Joseph, who lives in Ikwokwu-Ito, Obi Native Authorities Space of Benue was charged with culpable murder punishable below Part 222 of the Penal Code Legal guidelines of Benue, 2004.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Hyacinth Gbakor instructed the courtroom that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Obi through a letter dated Sept 21, 2020, to the State CID, Makurdi for correct investigation.

He alleged that the complainant, Philip Agbo, reported the matter on the police Station, Obarike-Ito, Obi on Sept 14.

Gbakor stated that Joseph hit his father, Igiri, after he accused his son of stealing his mobile phone.

He stated that Igiri, fell down and died on the spot.

Delivering Judgement, the Chief Justice of the Peace Vincent Kor, didn’t take the plea of Joseph for need of jurisdiction.

Kor ordered the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for authorized recommendation.

He, nevertheless, adjourned the case till Nov. 25, for additional point out.
