An apex socio-cultural Igbo youth group, Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) has appealed to the federal authorities to grant presidential pardon to all pro-Biafran detainees within the spirit of independence.
In a communiqué signed by the Nationwide President of the group, Igboayaka O Igboayaka, he mentioned it was unlucky that at sixty years of Nigeria, the issue that led to the Nigeria-Biafran civil struggle has multiplied to a bigger proportion.
“Let me say it with out concern or favour that it’s only by God’s intervention that the nation has not skilled a yet one more civil struggle.
“With the happenings in Nigeria, the marginalization, injustice, wickedness, hate, extra-judicial killings and oppressive authorities towards Ndigbo and different minor ethnicities in Nigeria, the nation ought to have been due for an additional spherical of civil struggle.
“Sadly, since 2015, the nation’s division has elevated from 70% to 99%. That is shameful!
“In the present day, we’re 60 and are merely celebrating a theoretical Nigeria independence with new neocolonialism. I wish to say, with out mincing phrases, that Nigeria remains to be a toddler at 60. Nigeria wants a civilian president like late Normal Sani Abacha.
“We’re celebrating Nigeria at 60 with a lot hate towards the Igbo race that has contributed to a big extent, the expansion and growth of the nation.
“We, subsequently, problem the president to show his claims as a patriotic Nigerian and grant a presidential pardon to all of the pro-Biafran detainees.
“Till he does that, the nation’s 60th Independence as celebrated by all Nigerians needn’t be given significance,” he urged.
Lastly, he mentioned that the President by that singular act of patriotism will register his identify as African Peace Ambassador and a hero of democracy.
