Ondo Courtroom remands seven suspected political thugs in jail

Seven suspected political thugs have been on Tuesday remanded by a Justice of the Peace Courtroom sitting in Akure for alleged possession of firearms.

The suspects have been apprehended by a safety agent on Ikaro highway, Ifon headquarters of Ose Native Authorities Space on September 19, 2020, whereas allegedly parading the city with a branded marketing campaign car.

In response to the Director of Public Prosecution, Grace Olowoporoku, the suspects have been caught with regionally made single and double barrel weapons totalling seven with dwell cartridges and thereby committing a felony opposite to and punishable underneath part 3 (1) of the theft and firearms (Particular Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol. 14 Regulation of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

The DPP, subsequently, tendered an utility praying the court docket to remand the suspects within the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service Centre, Olokuta Akure because it lacks jurisdiction to entertain the case.

With out objection from the counsel to the suspects, the presiding Justice of the Peace, Tope Aladejana ordered the seven suspects to be remanded in jail to allow the police conclude its investigations on the crime.

Talking on the matter, the state Lawyer-Basic and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Adekola Olawoye, SAN mentioned it’s the obligation of any accountable govt to guard her residents underneath the provisions of the regulation.

Whereas querying the intention of the suspects parading the city with illegal firearms and different harmful weapons underneath the pretence of a political rally, Olawoye admonished that election shouldn’t be seen as a do or die affair.
