Tribunal sacks APC lawmaker, declares PDP candidate winner in Kwara

The election of the lawmaker representing Pategi Constituency, within the Kwara state Home of Meeting, Ahmed Adam, has been nullified.

The state Home of Meeting Elections Petition Tribunal, sitting in Ilorin, nullified the election on Monday, over alleged irregularities in his names.

The tribunal has consequently declared Hon Salihu Yahaya Mohammed, of the Peoples Democratic Social gathering, PDP, because the winner of the bye-election held in March 2020.

Delivering judgement, the Chairman of the tribunal, Aminat Aliyu, mentioned “Adam’s identify on the EC9 kind, is completely different from the one on his main college certificates, declaration of age, voter card, and within the letter forwarded to the INEC on 15th January, 2019.

Counsel to the PDP candidate, Barrister Ibn Mahmud, mentioned “the judgement mirrored the place of legislation.”

Additionally reacting, the state PDP congratulated its candidate within the bye election, Hon Salihu Yahaya Mohammed, for his victory on the tribunal.

A press release by the state Chairman of the get together, Engr Kola Shittu, mentioned “The judiciary needs to be hailed for standing up for the reality by declaring Hon Salihu Yahaya Mohammed, as winner of the Home of Meeting bye election which was held on March 14,2020, following the indictment of the APC candidate over alleged forgery of his certificates.”

The PDP and its candidate had gone to the tribunal alleging that the APC candidate, Adam, deposed false data within the EC9 kind he submitted to the Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee, INEC.
